We’re celebrating an important milestone for physiotherapy in our province: the Government of New Brunswick has announced a partnership with Université de Moncton to launch the province’s very first physiotherapy training program.
This announcement marks a turning point for our profession. For the first time, New Brunswick students will be able to complete their physiotherapy training without leaving the province. This is a huge step forward that strengthens our healthcare system and opens doors for future practitioners.
While this is a step worth celebrating, it’s also just the beginning. The program is expected to admit 12 students per year. We know the need across New Brunswick is far greater.
With growing demand in hospitals, private clinics, schools, long-term care, and rural communities, 12 graduates per year will not fully meet the need for accessible physiotherapy care in our province.
As an association, we see this announcement as both a victory and a call to action.
We’ll continue advocating for:
Expanded enrolment over time, so more students can access training opportunities.
Sustainable supports for clinical placements and mentorship, ensuring graduates are prepared for the realities of practice in New Brunswick.
Long-term planning to address gaps in rural and underserved communities.
We’re proud to support this program and look forward to working with government, Université de Moncton, and our partners to build on this foundation. The first 12 seats are a good start. To truly meet the needs of New Brunswickers, this program must grow.
As an association, we look forward to working with our partners to help make the program a success. We’re excited to see the next generation of physiotherapists grow their careers here, supported by the communities they’ll one day serve.
